Kovachevski – Lawson: Strong support from United Kingdom in achieving strategic goals and development policies
Skopje, 18 August 2022 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met Thursday with the new Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of North Macedonia, Matthew Lawson.
Talks reaffirmed the great friendship between North Macedonia and the United Kingdom, highlighting the commitment to promote cooperation in economy, defense – as NATO partner countries, as well as in the fight against crime and corruption. In addition, participants in the meeting announced support to further reform processes in the country, the Government said in a press release.
“Participants in the meeting extended congratulations on the country’s progress in the European integration and the start of EU negotiations, through the wise solutions reached in the proposal of the French EU Presidency. At the same time, firm support from the United Kingdom was conveyed for the realization of the strategic goals of the Republic of North Macedonia, including full-fledged European Union membership, after the NATO membership. In addition, support was expressed for the policies that lead to the development of the country, through inclusiveness and cooperation, in the country and in the region,” reads the press release.
Talks between Kovachevski and Lawson highlighted the United Kingdom’s respect for the Macedonian language and the development of the Macedonian culture.
In addition, interlocutors agreed that policies of good neighborliness give results in the perspectives of the country and the entire region. In this regard, the discussion underlined the significance of the Open Balkan initiative.
Discussions also focused on overcoming challenges in terms of energy and other current regional and global issues caused by the war in Ukraine and the pandemic.
