Kovachevski – Holstein: New steps in European integration in 2023 open road to dynamic EU progress

Skopje, 12 January 2023 (MIA) – New steps in European integration in 2023 open the road to dynamic progress towards the EU, agreed Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and German Ambassador Anke Holstein at a farewell meeting on Thursday.

PM Kovachevski thanked Ambassador Holstein for the sincere and great friendship with the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as Germany’s great contribution and Ambassador Holstein’s commitments towards the development of democratic processes and North Macedonia’s European integration process, the Government said in a press release.

It adds that Germany strongly supports North Macedonia’s path to the EU, especially in 2023, because it “opens up possibilities for an expedited dynamic to a full-fledged membership in the EU, where this country belongs”.

PM Kovachevski said Germany has been a significant political and economic partner of North Macedonia ever since its independence, and that the support from European partners is of great significance to the country progress.

The PM said the Government is focused on fulfilling the European strategic goal, which is important for the quality of life of citizens of North Macedonia, as well as to maintain the motivation for the European orientation of the whole region, which proved crucial after the war in Ukraine.

Interlocutors also discussed the overcoming of challenges brought by the economic and energy crisis, as well as other current political developments, reads the press release. dk/ik/
