Kovachevski – Gentiloni: Macro-financial assistance of EUR 100 million for N. Macedonia, strong support for EU membership
- Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski as part of his participation in the Vienna Economic Forum held a meeting Monday with the European Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, during which the Commissioner stressed the support for North Macedonia’s EU membership, and noted that macro-financial assistance of EUR 100 million has been provided for the country, said the Government in a press release.
Skopje, 13 November 2023 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski as part of his participation in the Vienna Economic Forum held a meeting Monday with the European Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni, during which the Commissioner stressed the support for North Macedonia’s EU membership, and noted that macro-financial assistance of EUR 100 million has been provided for the country, said the Government in a press release.
“The process of accession talks will also mean increased financial assistance for North Macedonia,” said Gentiloni at the meeting.
Prime Minister Kovachevski and European Commissioner Gentiloni exchanged opinions over the realization of priority projects for North Macedonia within the frameworks of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans. The two noted that the plan will act as a stimulus for economic growth, focusing on infrastructure, digitization, energy and transport connectivity of North Macedonia, as well as the other countries of the region.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Kovachevski stressed that European integration is a strategic goal for North Macedonia and the Government is firmly committed to reforms, enhancing regional economic integration, and to the development of a common regional market on the basis of EU legislation in order to make the region more attractive for investments.
Kovachevski and Gentiloni also exchanged opinions over the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans which, according to the press release, “is a strong encouragement for the region’s Euro-integrations, and will double the economy of the region and the country”.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister and the Commissioner noted that for North Macedonia, the European integration will mean fundamental changes and harmonization of economic and legal frameworks with the legislation and policies of the EU.
