Kostadinovski – Rokas: Necessary to ensure and respect Constitutional Court’s independence, autonomy

Skopje, 17 December 2024 (MIA) - It is necessary to ensure and respect the independence and autonomy of the Constitutional Court, as well as the entire judicial system, in all aspects, President of the Constitutional Court Darko Kostadinovski and EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas concurred at a meeting. 

Kostadinovski briefed the EU Ambassador on current developments as well as challenges faced by the Court in its work over the past period, the Constitutional Court said in a press release. 

Constitutional Court President Kostadinovski underscored that it is the Court’s imperative commitment to safeguard the Constitution, regardless of any attempts at politicization and ethnicization in its proceedings. 

"A mutual conclusion was that the protection of the rule of law should be the top priority of all factors in our society as the only way to restore citizens' trust in the institutions of the system. To this end, the interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to ensure and respect the independence and autonomy of the Constitutional Court, as well as the entire judicial system, in all aspects," reads the press release. 

Kostadinovski extended gratitude for the support to the Constitutional Court through the EU project “Strengthened Capacities of the Constitutional Court”.

Participants in the meeting, also including Judge Tatjana Vasikj-Bozadzhieva, expressed mutual agreement to continue cooperation in the coming period.
