Komitova: Besa Trans bus accident wasn’t result of speeding, cause of fire still unclear
Sofia, 30 November 2021 (MIA) - Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development, Violeta Komitova, said on Tuesday that last week’s Besa Trans bus accident wasn’t caused by speeding. “This is an unusual incident. It’s still unclear what caused the fire that killed passengers,” Koitova said. She told a press briefing on Tuesday that the expropriation of the section of the Struma highway where the accident happened is still ongoing. Moreover, the Minister said that the road condition report proved that it’s not a highway, but an expressway, MIA reports from Sofia. Komitova underlined that the 120 km/h speed limit wasn’t the main cause of the accident. At the time of the accident, the Minister said, only the central line of the road was marked. Two companies owned by the same person were chosen to do the marking and put up the signs. In 2013, they installed the speed limit sign, while the guardrail was put up in 2017 and met all requirements. However, she added, new rules were introduced in 2021.
