Koco: Events in Judicial Council mean disrespect for law and absence of moral norms

Skopje, 30 April 2023 (MIA) - The events in the Judicial Council are anomie, disrespect for the law and lack of moral norms, the former Judge of the Supreme Court, Vera Koco said Sunday.

In an interview with Radio Free Europe, she said the US Ambassador rightly reacted to the Court of Appeals, and Appellate's justification “does not hold water.”

“Now that this has happened in the Judicial Council, it is as if it was expected that something like this would happen. Not that she (President Vesna Dameva) showed incompetence in performing her duties, but to manage such a Council, such a body that should take care of the autonomy and independence of the entire judiciary in our country is really a difficult and complicated task. Concerning the latest events in Judicial Council, I will say a Greek word that means anomie. What is anomie? It means disregard or non-existence of legal provisions and absence of moral norms or values. On the contrary, what happened for me is an anomic event,” Koco said.

According to her, to react in such a way, regardless of whether she fulfilled her function consistently during four and a half months, is really a big challenge, but what happened is unacceptable on the part of her deputy.

Koco said that there is a procedure for dismissing a member of the Judicial Council, first a disciplinary procedure should be conducted, and then, she added, as long as the necessary circumstances are determined in relation to any disobedience to the law or non-implementation of the work of the Judicial Council, it is ok, but in this case, all those things were skipped.
