Kiribati welcomes 2026 first, American Samoa, Baker and Howland Islands last

Skopje, 31 December 2025 (MIA) - Millions of people worldwide will ring in the New Year 2026 in city squares, tourist resorts, cafés, restaurants, pubs, or at home with their families.

Kiribati, a Pacific island nation, will be the first to welcome the New Year at 11:00 am Macedonian time, while American Samoa and the Baker and Howland Islands will be the last to enter 2026, at 1:00 pm on January 1.

In other words, it takes 26 hours for the entire world to welcome the New Year.

New Year’s Eve celebrations will be organized in Skopje and other cities across the country. Tonight’s music program in the capital will include performances by Macedonian artists.

In Skopje, the festive program titled “New Year’s Winter Fairy Tale” will last all day today, culminating this evening at Macedonia Square.

The mayor of Skopje, Orce Gjorgjievski, invited Skopje residents to Macedonia Square for an unforgettable New Year 2026 celebration, a night that will again bring the city together. He noted that with local performers, favored by the audience, that have prepared “a program that connects all generations.”

"Starting at 19:45, the program kicks off with Mile Kuzmanovski’s powerful vocals, followed by Ognen Zdravkovski. Next on stage are Dina Jashari, the legendary Kuku Lele, and the unique Tamara Todevska. The highlight will be performances by young audience favorites Pajak, Lara, and Dva Bona, with Karolina Gocheva taking the stage for the magical New Year moment,” Gjorgjievski said in his invitation to Skopje’s New Year’s Eve celebration.
