Kavadarci first to fifth graders get free school meals this year as well

Kavadarci, 1 October 2024 (MIA) -- For the second school year in a row, first to fifth graders in Kavadarci's elementary schools are receiving free school meals, MIA's Kavadarci correspondent reports.

According to Kavadarci Mayor Mitko Janchev, a total of 1,780 of students are getting the free meals, which are delivered daily to each school in the area.

"This is the second year our municipality has implemented this project in all local and regional elementary schools," Mayor Janchev told MIA's correspondent.

The free school meals project was in line with health and safety regulations, he said, adding that the menu was developed by nutritionists and included various foods, beverages, and fruit.

Janchev said the project was financed with 20 million denars from the municipal budget.

He said the free school meals for first to fifth graders were part of his election promises and they were a success. "Most importantly, the kids are happy," he said.

Highlighting the importance of the project for the local self-government, schoolchildren and their families, he said its main objectives were to help the parents financially and to make sure children get nutritious meals.

"The Municipality of Kavadarci, if health allows, will continue the free meals next school year as well," the Kavadarci mayor said. mr/
