Tetovo, 20 May 2024 (MIA) - Besa Movement leader Bilall Kasami said Monday the procedure for the creation of the next government is proceeding well, with discussions over the principles and functioning of the next government currently underwayl, as well as harmonization of the parties' platforms.
Kasami, whose party is a member of the Worth It coalition, voiced hope that the negotiations will result in a government which, he said, “will be competent, with professionals, with people who will work for the state and the citizens regardless of their ethnicity”.
“We are aware that not all ministers can be Albanian or Macedonian in a multiethnic country and society such as Macedonia. But what matters is that whoever is in charge of a ministry should work for all citizens regardless of their ethnicity, religious affiliation or something else. At this stage we have an understanding that regardless of their position, the officials will have to work for all citizens,” Kasami said.
Asked specifically about the number of ministerial positions they will get in the government, Kasami said it would be announced once the parties reach a final agreement.
He dismissed DUI leader Ali Ahmeti’s statement that Wednesday’s revote could cause interethnic tensions.
“Everyone talks about what they know how to do. That’s how Ali Ahmeti acted in the past. He knows how he won the seats he has now, that’s why he is panicking. We are simply saying let’s give a chance to the citizens on Wednesday to come out and vote. If he is confident in the votes he won, then he should remain calm and confident that he will win them again. But if he knows that he won them in a non-democratic, unfair way, then that’s why he is panicking. We are saying that we should create conditions on Wednesday for the citizens to come out and vote of their free will. We hope that we will have a good result,” the leader of the Besa Movement said.
Kasami also told reporters that he won’t act as an MP and will continue serving as the Mayor of Tetovo.
