Kacarska: Will of rule of law stronger than all systematic and political anomalies

Skopje, 15 March 2024 (MIA) - The 60th anniversary of the Constitutional Court is another confirmation of the system's capacities and proof of the perseverance and unwavering approach in building the rule of law. With respect to the constitutional and legal matrix, one cannot help but infer that the will of the rule of law is stronger than all systemic and political anomalies, Constitutional Court President Dobrila Kacarska said on Friday.

At the opening of today's international conference on occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Constitutional Court, Kacarska pointed out that our country, having gone through several constitutional transformations, has seen continuous development.

"The fact this jubilee is twice as long as our independence as a state indicates that the guardians of the Constitution, throughout all turmoils and ordeals, have shown determination and inclination towards legal principles and values," Kacarska noted.

According to her, this jubilee is an opportunity to look back, but also look at future challenges. She also emphasized the need to expand the Constitutional Court toward individual protection.

"In constitutional theory, this opportunity is defined as a constitutional lawsuit or constitutional appeal which, in practice, would require the protection of human rights and freedoms," Kacarska stressed.

Its commitments, she added, are focused on steady implementation of the constitutional appeal as a personal instrument that paves the way for changing the essential attributes of the Constitutional Court.

Kacarska also called on state officials to influence processes of supplementing and strengthening the Constitutional Court and encourages citizens to seek legal protection from the Constitutional Court, as she said, before exposing themselves to financial consequences beyond the country's borders.
