Justice Minister Lloga says amnesty law in Parliament in ten days, expects support from all lawmakers

Skopje, 28 September 2023 (MIA) - The amnesty law has been endorsed by the Government and will find itself before lawmakers in the Parliament in ten days. Let me assure you that no elected or appointed official will be covered by this law, and neither will cases related to domestic violence. The law adopted in 2018 is being repeated, when all political parties acted as petitioners - VMRO-DPMNE, SDSM, DUI, AA and all those represented in the Parliament, said Justice Minister Krenar Lloga on Thursday.

Minister Lloga expects all lawmakers and political parties to support the law, since it does not serve for daily political purposes but is a result of his visit to the Idrizovo prison.

"The state is not at the required level and the standards required by our system. I am responsible for the conditions there and the six months I have been in office, all others should be held accountable for the past three decades," noted Lloga.

He does not expect the law to be blocked, because "VMRO-DPMNE and other parties would deny their actions back in 2018", adding the law is the same one and no crimes have been added.

Asked if the law would cover some of the sentenced persons in the "Monster" case, the Justice Minister urged for restraint from playing with names and emotions related to a specific case.

"The law is the same as the one in 2018. If these crimes were pardoned in 2018, they will be again. The law does not go into specific cases and as such will be forwarded to the Parliament," said Lloga.

He added that sentenced persons, not academicians, would be released from prison.

"It is only the case with VMRO-DPMNE that a criminal goes out of prison as academician and is greeted at the palace as a hero," said Minister Lloga.
