Judicial Council to put procedures for election of judges and disciplinary liability on hold during elections

Skopje, 21 February 2024 (MIA) – The Judicial Council decided Wednesday to put procedures for disciplinary liability of court presidents or judges, and the election of new court presidents or judges on hold during the coming presidential and parliamentary elections.

 

According to the Council, the decision was adopted in line with the Decision of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia officially scheduling the presidential and parliamentary elections, according to which procedures for the employment of new staff or dismissal of staff cannot be launched in state or public institutions, whereas already launched procedures are put on hold, with the exception of urgent matters.

 

The Council made the decision after a long debate, with opinions divided over the issue. It also decided to further discuss the issue of the election of a member of the Judicial Council at a session scheduled for Thursday, February 29.
