Jovica Stojanovikj appointed acting director of Department for Execution of Criminal Sanctions

Skopje, 18 January 2023 (MIA) – The government at a session on Wednesday approved the proposal of the Minister of Justice to appoint Jovica Stojanovikj as the acting director of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions.

At its 120th session, the government also accepted the proposal of the Minister of Justice to issue a public announcement for the appointment of a new director of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, in accordance with Article 27, paragraph (2) of the Law on Enforcement of Sanctions.

Stojanovikj is appointed acting director of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, after government on Tuesday dismissed Marjan Spasovski from the post of director of the Department for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, after Skopje prison inmate Bekim Memeti escaped from the Idrizovo prison.

In addition to Spasovski, after Memeti fled, a commander and prison officers were suspended from office.

A court ordered 8-day detention of the commander and two prison officers suspected of aiding and abetting the escape, and precautionary measures were imposed on a fourth suspect.
