Skopje, 18 December 2024 (MIA) – Former prime minister and current member of Parliament, Dimitar Kovachevski said Wednesday he had followed the laws both when serving as prime minister and as deputy finance minister after charges were filed against eight people, including Kovachevski, for abuse of power.
“I hope the institutions will conduct the whole process in an unbiased and professional way. Throughout my term, both as prime minister and as deputy finance minister, I’d always followed the laws. We’ve never, in any way, participated in the operations of any public enterprise or state-owned joint-stock company,” Kovachevski stated.
On Tuesday, the Interior Ministry revealed as part of the State Lottery case, it pressed charges against eight people, including ex-PM Kovachevski and former government secretary general, Metodija Dimovski.
Prosecutors on Monday ordered an investigation against two persons suspected of committing a crime of Misappropriation in Office, while four others are investigated over Abuse of Office. The two individuals, in the capacity of officials in the State Lottery, took part in actions with the intention of unlawfully acquiring assets estimated at about Mden 500 million (EUR 8.1 million) from the company's budget.
