Ivanovska: SCPC succeeded in reversing EC's negative assessment of commission

Skopje, 12 January 2024 (MIA) - State Commission for Prevention of Corruption (SCPC) President Biljana Ivanovska said Friday she is satisfied from the accomplishments of the commission members, who completed about 5,500 cases, despite the "subtle obstacles they faced".
Ivanovska said the SCPC composition, which term expires at the beginning of February, did not start from zero but "way below zero" if one takes into account prior European Commission assessments of the institution.
"The assessments were rather negative up to 2019. We have managed to reverse this, although we spent half of our mandate without proper working conditions, in terms of space, equipment and human resources. Nevertheless, SCPC tackled many cases, about 5,500 have been completed. We also filed numerous initiatives to the Public Prosecutor's Office," Ivanovska told reporters.
SCPC will brief the media on its cases and initiatives by the end of the month, with the large files related to "Bechtel-Enka" and "Lottery" to serve as "the icing on the cake".
