Tel Aviv/Beirut, 9 October 2023 (dpa/MIA) - The Israeli army has hit targets in Lebanon with attack helicopters, the military said on Monday, adding that its soldiers had shot several armed suspects who had entered Israel from the northern neighbour.
The military had previously announced that they were searching for further suspects.
According to Israeli media reports, there were exchanges of fire. Israeli television reported that residents in the north of the country had been ordered to stay in shelters.
Hezbollah, a Shiite organization closely allied with Iran, denied involvement in the incident, to which Israel responded by firing on targets in the south of Lebanon.
Security sources in Lebanon suspect that Palestinian militants are behind the attack on Israel.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility on Sunday for rockets fired from south-eastern Lebanon into Israeli border territory.
