Iran says at least 15 killed in IS attack on Shiraz shrine
Berlin, 27 October 2022 (dpa/MIA) - At least 15 people have been killed in a suspected Islamic State attack in the Iranian city of Shiraz, according to state media. Dozens of others are said to have been injured at the Shiite sanctuary of Shah Cheragh, Iranian state television reported Wednesday. According to eyewitnesses, there was a large contingent of police and security forces around the shrine. Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack on a Telegram channel. The Sunni jihadists repeatedly carry out attacks on Shiite Muslims in Afghanistan, whom they describe as "apostates" from Islam. Such attacks are very unusual in Iran. Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi condemned the attack in a statement issued by the presidential office.
