Interior Ministry, Registry Office to digitally exchange information

Skopje, 25 January 2024 (MIA) — Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski and Registry Office director Emir Sulejmani signed Thursday an agreement for exchanging information in electronic form between the institutions they are at the helm of, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a press release.

According to the release, the digital exchange of data and electronic documents will be carried out through the national Interoperability Platform in line with regulations on electronic management and services.

The agreement lays out the highest ethical and legal standards, foreseeing necessary measures to promptly detect corruption and eliminate or reduce its harmful consequences, the release notes.

The cooperation will give the institutions access to services such as identifying a citizen's identification number, the release quotes Minister Spasovski as saying at the meeting.

According to Spasovski, the agreement is a sign of the country's progress and modernization. Cooperation and technology, he said, would create strong ties between different institutions so they could provide more efficient services to citizens and eliminate abuse.

"Through this agreement, we are strengthening our capacities for fast and accurate exchange of information, which is of crucial importance in the work of our institutions," Spasovski said.

"This way we are achieving greater transparency, reducing bureaucracy and eliminating chances of abuse. I strongly believe this is a step forward toward our institutions providing better services to citizens. It also testifies to our readiness to adapt to new challenges," he said, adding that technology had the potential to improve citizens' quality of life.

Registry Office head Sulejmani said they had worked on the project over the past few years and welcomed its completion. He also said that the implementation of the agreement would follow prescribed protocols and deadlines. mr/
