Interior Ministry officials meet US Ambassador Aggeler

Skopje, 15 February 2024 (MIA) – Caretaker Minister of Interior Panche Toskovski, Deputy Interior Minister Nazim Bushi, and additional Deputy Minister of Interior Mitko Bojmacaliev held a working meeting with the US Ambassador to North Macedonia, Angela Aggeler.

As reported by the Ministry of Interior, Toshkovski briefed Ambassador Aggeler on the functioning of the Ministry within the caretaker Government and its role in organizing and conducting a fair and democratic electoral process.
“In that context, Minister Toshkovski highlighted the legal impossibility within the framework of the eight managerial positions in the internal affairs sectors to appoint a chief of the Tetovo Police. This undermines the ability to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process for that region,” the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.

He explained the activities undertaken regarding the importance of travel documents and, as stated in the press release, emphasized addressing this issue in the same manner as driving licenses, namely through an amendment to the law on travel documents.

“At the meeting, Ambassador Aggeler expressed her understanding of the entire process aimed at resolving the issue with personal documents and underscored her commitment to offering full support in addressing the problem, utilizing technical or any other necessary resources. She also expressed confidence that the Ministry of Interior will professionally fulfill its obligations to organize safe, fair, and democratic elections and commended the successful bilateral cooperation, emphasizing ongoing projects initiated in collaboration with programs working on their implementation to enhance the capacities of the Macedonian police,” reads the press release.

Bojmacaliev expressed gratitude for the ongoing cooperation with the USA, particularly for the recent successful visit to Washington.

“Additionally, he stressed that the leadership of the Ministry of Interior in this composition of the caretaker Government is operating professionally and in accordance with the law, free from political influence, and should continue in the same manner throughout its entire tenure,” reads the press release.
