Institutional cooperation and creating new policies in focus of sport summit

Skopje, 26 October 2023 (MIA) - Top-level sport issues, funding, control and spending, institutional cooperation and creating new policies are in the focus of the second sport summit "Today's Sport 23" in Skopje on Thursday.

The summit, organized by the Geostrategic Institute Global, is held under the auspices of Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski, who said in the opening remarks that the event provided the opportunity for broad institutional participation.

"Everyone, in their respective field, should contribute to defining the current position of sport in our society but also the direction and prerequisites for its enhancement as an important societal sphere," said Minister Spasovski.

Minister of Education and Science Jeton Shaqiri said discipline, teamwork and commitment are capabilities that define an individual's success in life from an early age, contributing to their physical and mental health.

"The power and influence of sport is enormous, it transcends borders, it unifies communities, it inspires young people. That is why sport is an integral part of the education system. As a society, we need concrete and applicable solutions to overcome the numerous challenges related to sport. This sport summit represents a good opportunity to review the existing sports policies and listen to innovative approaches in shaping the future of sport," added Shaqiri.

Macedonian Olympic Committee president Daniel Dimevski said it is important to keep the topic high on the agenda.

"This topic merges sport with politics, two different aspects that have to function as one in order to have success. Success will not come if this synergy is absent. The magic formula is to work together, respect one another, listen to each other and build proper policies," said Dimevski.

The summit includes several panel discussions dedicated to global sport, sports education, corruption in sport, and sport and health.
