Iceland's PM Jakobsdóttir welcomes PM Kovachevski at opening of Council of Europe Summit in Reykjavík

Skopje, 16 May 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski arrived at the fourth Summit of the Council of Europe in Reykjavík, Iceland. At the opening of the summit, he was welcomed by Iceland's Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić.
The delegation led by PM Kovachevski also includes Deputy PM for European Affairs, Bojan Marichikj.
At the fourth Summit of the Council of Europe in Reykjavík, leaders will discuss topics related to peace and respect for human rights, particularly in these difficult times when not only one country is attacked in Europe, but democratic principles and values of the international order are also under attack, the Government said in a press release.
The summit aims to unite member states towards the principles of democracy, ensuring a clear common understanding of how to secure and strengthen democracy in Europe. That is why the summit's agenda, in addition to the official opening, includes round table discussions on various topics including human rights, democracy, the rule of law, environment, artificial intelligence and digital development, as well as a working dinner that will be dedicated to Ukraine.
At the end of the summit, Iceland will officially hand over the Presidency of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers to Latvia.
