Skopje, 15 September 2022 (MIA) – History textbooks treating the medieval period and the possibility of joint observance of revolutionary Goce Delchev were in the focus of the two-day meeting of the North Macedonia-Bulgaria Joint Multidisciplinary Commission of Experts on Historical and Educational Issues that ended in Skopje, said the Macedonian team on Thursday. Regarding history textbooks, the topic of discussion were the church institutions during the medieval period and their significance for Christianity and Slavic literacy and culture. Considering the long discussion on this topic, the Commission members did not tackle other themes. Discussion on this and other topics in history textbooks will continue at the next meeting due to take place by the end of October, reads the press release. Members of both teams in the joint commission did not give a press conference or statements during the two-day meeting. On August 15, the Commission adopted recommendations that refer to improving history textbooks for 6th grade in North Macedonia and 5th grade in Bulgaria as well as recommendations for joint observance of figures of the medieval period – the Saints Cyril and Methodius, St. Clement, St. Naum and Tsar Samoil. The recommendations were adopted by the joint intergovernmental commission, established in accordance with the Treaty of Friendship, Good-Neighbourliness and Cooperation between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria.
