Higher Public Prosecutor's Office: 14 bodies recovered after roof collapses at Novi Sad railway station

Novi Sad, 1 November 2024 (MIA) - The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad has reported that 14 bodies have been recovered from the rubble so far during the investigation into the collapse of concrete roof above the entrance of the railway station in Novi Sad.

Three injured people have been moved to the Clinical Center and are in critical condition.

“The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad is taking all necessary steps and actions in line with the law to establish whether there are elements of a criminal offense and accountability for the incident, and the public will be updated in a timely manner,” reads the press release.

A concrete roof at the railway station in Novi Sad collapsed today at 11:50 am. Beneath the roof were benches, and at the time of the incident, many citizens were seated there. The dead were pulled from the rubble throughout the afternoon and into evening.

The government declared Saturday as an official day of mourning.
