Health Ministry organizes campaign for prevention and early detection of cervical cancer
Skopje, 1 February 2022 (MIA) - Cervical cancer can be prevented if found early. "One checkup is life-saving, get tested, be protected!" is the motto of the campaign for prevention and early detection of cervical cancer, the Ministry of Health writes on its Facebook page.
The Ministry of Health is dedicating this entire year, not just the month of January, traditionally the month dedicated to raising awareness for the fight against cervical cancer, to promoting women's health. A special module for patient registration is in its final stages in order to increase the range of women and getting this healthcare service closer to them.
"With the UNFPA's support, mobile gynecological clinics are already operational for the early detection of cervical cancer, and they've already been to a few municipalities state-wide. The goal is to increase the number of women that have had a free PAP smear, to increase the inclusiveness of the women's population from vulnerable groups which live in rural and remote places, and to raise awareness of the importance of regular checkups," the Ministry says.
The mobile gynecological clinics offers advice about gender based violence and family planning. Checkups are free, appointments are made through GPs.
"The campaign is done by running promotional videos on national TV, publishing documentaries about the mobile clinics on social media, distribution of printed educational material, as well as advice from gynecologists about the importance of regular checkups. All of these activities are realized through the Cervical Cancer Screening Committee in cooperation with the UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF and doctors' association," says the Ministry. dk/ba/
