Health Minister: Probe into Zhan Mitrev Clinic case to be pursued until finished
Skopje, 20 July 2022 (MIA) – Health Minister Bekim Sali at Wednesday’s press conference regarding the Investigative Reporting Lab’s “Bad Blood” documentary on alleged fatal medical malpractice at Skopje’s Zhan Mitrev Clinic said that the case will be pursued until finished and will be resolved, adding that no one is above the law, no one is untouchable. Minister Sali also briefed that a meeting between an expert team from the national Agency for Medicines and Medical Equipment (MALMED) and Zhan Mitrev Clinic’s representatives is underway to determine whether hospital follow legal regulations in conducting clinical trial practices to patients. According to the Minister Sali, the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate has conducted 45 regular and 52 extraordinary inspections in 12 private health institutions over the past three years. Moreover, the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate Director Irinka Sotirovska Buhova revealed details, informing that three regular and nine extraordinary inspections were carried out namely in the Zhan Mitrev Clinical Hospital. Earlier during the press conference, Sali explained the blood filtration method, which, he emphasized, is used in the treatment of critically ill patients in intensive care units. “Whether or not the method has been applied in accordance with the strict criteria should be assessed by supervision by experts in the relevant fields,” Sali said. Minister Sali added that the Ministry of Health remains open for cooperation for all institutions at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the work of Zhan Mitrev Clinical Hospital and doctor Zhan Mitrev after the national broadcaster MTV on Sunday aired “Bad Blood,” an Investigative Reporting Lab documentary raising allegations of fatal medical malpractice against the hospital and its staff.
