Hamas threatens to kill hostages, as Israel says Gaza border secured

Gaza, 9 October 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Israel's military said on Monday evening that hundreds of Hamas militants have been taken into captivity, and hundreds more were killed in the Gaza Strip and along Israeli border fence.

No more militants are entering Israel from Gaza, an Israeli military spokesman said.

A Hamas spokesman, meanwhile, threatened that the Islamist militant group would execute a hostage for every attack carried out by Israel.

Militants from Hamas staged large coordinated attacks on Israel on Saturday, killing more than 800 people and abducting another 150 hostages from Israel.

Israeli airstrikes in response to the large-scale attack have so far killed at least 493 people and injured more than 2,700 in the Gaza Strip, according to the health ministry there.

Hamas had earlier offered to trade elderly women being held hostage in Gaza in return for the release of 36 Palestinian women imprisoned in Israel.
