Grubi-Meyer: October elections to be held in European and democratic spirit
Skopje, 23 September 2021 (MIA) – The census, the upcoming local elections and the open issues with Bulgaria were the main topics discussed between First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Political Systems and Inter-Community Relations, Artan Grubi, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Skopje, Eric Meyer, at their meeting on Thursday.
Grubi and Meyer concluded that Washington is the biggest supporter of North Macedonia, the First Deputy PM's office said.
Grubi and Meyer talked about implementing the necessary, important reforms in order to ensure an unbiased and independent way for institutions to work, as well as the rule of law, which includes fight against corruption, and the census.
"Grubi told Meyer that this is an important process for our country, as well as being the demand of every international institution that expects of us, as a candidate for a membership into the EU, to take all necessary steps based on the population’s percentage, and for us to plan and implement development policies in our countries," said the press release.
According to Grubi, all preparations for the organization of the elections have been made, and the process will be held in European and democratic spirit.
“Grubi and Meyer have exchanged opinions about overcoming the open issue with Bulgaria. North Macedonia is ready to go back to talks with full constructiveness once the Bulgarian side is ready,” as per the press release.
They also discussed procedures under way in connection to Corridor VIII with Grubi expressing hopes that a contract will be signed with the US company Bechtel this year. dk/ba/
