Grubi says he knows there are VMRO-DPMNE MPs who would back constitutional amendments

Tetovo, 25 March 2023 (MIA) - Ahead of Saturday's session of the Central Presidency of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) in Mala Rechica, DUI member Artan Grubi said he knows there are MPs from the opposition VMRO-DPMNE who would back the constitutional amendments.

"I believe we should step up our efforts as of today, also calling on the Macedonian opposition to join in towards the efforts for a European North Macedonia. I know there are VMRO-DPMNE MPs whou would back the constitutional amendments," said Grubi.

In response to a reporter's question to comment on statements by VMRO-DPMNE that the ruling party lacks 10 MPs, Grubi said that was being said by people who are not MPs.

Grubi denied allegations that a DUI MP has asked for money in return for voting in favor of constitutional amendments, noting that there is no DUI MP nor an Albanian in the progressive parliamentary majority who is making the constitutional amendments for European North Macedonia conditional.

"There is no DUI MP nor an Albanian nor anyone else in the progressive parliamentary majority who conditions the constitutional amendments for a European North Macedonia. I think you should look someplace else, i.e. the headquarters of VMRO-DPMNE. As of today, we are stepping up efforts to secure the parliamentary majority as we did in the case of the Prespa Agreement. I am convinced that we will succeed this time too, because we have contacts with the opposition and we see the mood. It's one thing what their leaders say, who are not MPs, but it's another thing what those who are MPs say," said Grubi.
