Grubi: European proposal to open EU negotiations without threatening Macedonian language and identity
Skopje, 13 July 2022 (MIA) - The First Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi, who is also the minister for political system, on Wednesday held a farewell meeting with Hungarian Ambassador Laszlo Istvan Dux to discuss current developments in the country and the region, cooperation as NATO allies, bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in relation to the country's EU integration process. Welcoming the continuing cooperation with Hungary, Grubi said North Macedonia appreciates Hungary's support for getting a date for start of EU negotiations and for its readiness to share experiences from experts, his office said. To unblock the EU integration process and open the EU accession negotiations, he noted, is key for stability and security in the region amid the latest geopolitical circumstances. The First Deputy PM said he was confident that the European proposal for the holding of the first intergovernmental conference and the opening of negotiations with the EU do not threaten in any way the identity, culture, history and the Macedonian language. "Politicians are elected to make decisions, which is why courage is needed to make decisions that guarantee the country's future rather than the career of any official. The opposition has always been against the country's strategic decisions. History has proven it was on the wrong side," Grubi said. He thanked Ambassador Dux for his diplomatic engagement and commitment to improving the countries' relations.
