Grkovska-Zadić: Corruption a problem in all countries, efficient mechanism required

Skopje, 7 March 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska met Tuesday with Austria's Justice Minister Alma Zadić, discussing the meed for every country to have an efficient and independent judicial system.

Deputy PM Grkovska thanked Minister Zadić for Austria's support to North Macedonia's Euro-integration path, which is significant in the process of reforms that must be implemented in order to meet EU criteria, the Government said in a press release.

Interlocutors exchanged opinions on the way in which the countries' judicial system are functioning, reaffirming the need for establishment of a sustainable system that will yield results and not depend on individuals.

Grkovska also stressed that the election of judges and prosecutors must be transparent, whereas quality, knowledge, experience and integrity of elected persons should be the deciding factors.

 
Grkovska and Zadić agreed that all countries are faced with corruption but every state should build an efficient mechanism that will bring corruption to the lowest degree.
 
Zadić saluted North Macedonia's decision to dedicate significant attention to good governance policies, adding that the role of women and youth in societal changes is crucial, reads the press release.
