Skopje, 26 September 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska held a working meeting on Tuesday with Slovenian Minister of Digital Transformation Emilija Stojmenova Duh to discuss the possibility of joint cooperation in digitalization, exchange experiences and support in establishing electronic identity cards in North Macedonia.

According to an official press release, Minister Stojmenova Duh's team discussed Slovenia’s experience with the process of establishing electronic identity cards, the regulative that must be followed, as well as the opportunities offered by this process for digital services.

Deputy PM Grkovska thanked the Slovenian minister for the support Slovenia offers to North Macedonia, especially for digital transformation of society.

She also discussed the steps taken for establishing a National Council for Digital Transformation of Society, adopting the Concept for Digital Transformation that will define the next steps, and the adopted plan and concept for introducing electronic identity cards in North Macedonia.

"She stressed digital transformation of society was very important in the context of good governance policies, because it ensures efficiency, transparency and accountability of the private sector, but also reduces the possibility of a subjective human factor in the processes," the press release reads.

Stojmenova Duh said Slovenia's support for North Macedonia's digitalization was aligned with EU policies, and that Western Balkan countries received support to implement digital transformation necessary for advancing the services citizens use.

"The meeting participants agreed to intensify cooperation over the next period, with the involvement of representatives from the European Commission, in order to jointly consider the possibilities that the electronic identity cards should contain and their connection with travel documents and driver's license," the press release adds. ssh/mr
