Grkovska - Joveski: Strengthening integrity in judiciary key to restoring trust among citizens
Skopje, 11 April 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska met Tuesday with State Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski, for talks on the activities of the Public Prosecutor's Office towards implementing remarks noted in the European Commission Progress Report. 
 
 
Deputy PM Grkovska, her Office said in a press release, in coordination with competent anti-corruption institutions undertakes concrete activities for consistent implementation of the recommendations in the EC Progress Report.  
 
 
"Deputy PM Grkovska expressed readiness, within her competencies in good governance and promoting the rule of law, to support the activities of the Public Prosecutor's Office in order to overcome the challenges noted in the EC report. Grkovska's Office is open to cooperation with all competent institutions in terms of the need to strengthen internal mechanisms and advocates for the establishment of a merit system in all institutions," reads the press release.   
 
 
 
Grkovska stressed that strengthening the integrity in the judiciary is key to restoring trust among the citizens, as well as to ensuring justice and fairness. Integrity training, as well as all other trainings, should be seen as an investment. Trainings should be part of the merit system, i.e. the effect of the trainings should be measured by the number of cases in which the acquired knowledge has been applied. 
 
 
State Public Prosecutor Joveski said concrete steps are already being taken to act in line with EU recommendations, including establishing full functionality of the four investigation centers in the country. Joveski mention the Public Prosecutor's Office internal mechanisms towards ethical and professional conduct of public prosecutors, as well as the adopted Rulebook on evaluating the work of public prosecutors. 
 
"Participants in the meeting highlighted the need for providing software solutions and adequate technical staff towards full and smooth functioning of interoperability, in terms of continuous modernization of the processes and improvement of the overall functionality of the Public Prosecutor's Office and all other institutions," reads the press release.
