Skopje, 20 February 2023 (MIA) – Every institution схоулд have a person in charge of honoring the code of ethics and a person in charge of creating good governance policies, саид Deputy Prime Minister for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska on Monday.

Deputy PM Grkovska believes this is not supposed to be the responsibility of one person but that institutional awareness for the importance of creating good governance policies in accordance with a code of ethics is a basic obligation of developed democratic societies.

She said the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption has not yet submitted materials for the cases concerning Deputy PM Artan Grubi and Youth and Sport Agency director Naumche Mojsoski, and reiterated that her jurisdiction applies only to the area of following the code of ethics, and any sort of responsibility falls to other authorities.

“We reprimanded Artan Grubi, Bujar Osmani and Naser Nuredini,” she said.

Regarding the issue of MPs who have apartments in Skopje but nevertheless are paid travel expenses, th Deputy PM said she has no jurisdiction in the matter because the Parliament is a legislative branch independent of the executive branch.

“The law is the same for appointed office holders and the rules are the same. I can’t say if there are rule breaches because I don’t have the details, but Parliament should reduce them to a minimum or abolish them completely, and sanction the ones who are irresponsible,” Grkovska said.

She added that the insistence on transparency in institutions should apply to MPs as well, because it applies positive pressure for institutions to be more responsible to the citizens, which should also apply to lawmakers. dk/ik/
