Greek farmers suspend protests at Evzoni, Niki border crossings until Friday

Greek farmers suspend protests at Evzoni, Niki border crossings until Friday

Athens, 23 December 2025 (MIA) – Traffic at the Evzoni (Bogorodica) and Niki (Medzitlija) border crossings with North Macedonia will be unobstructed through Friday, as Greek farmers have decided to suspend protests during the Christmas holiday, yet their tractors and farm vehicles will remain camped at the borders, said Greek news agency ANA-MPA, MIA's Athens correspondent reports.

According to Greek news agency ANA-MPA, at the Evzoni border crossing, farmers will remove their tractors and farm vehicles from the middle of the road and park them on either side of the road, leaving lanes in both directions fully open so that trucks, tourist coaches and passenger vehicles can pass unhindered.

However, even though their protest is suspended, they will remain at the blockade, where they intend to spend the holiday without blocking traffic.

Similarly, farmers have decided not to block traffic at the Niki border crossing until Friday.

On the other hand, blockades will continue, at least for today, at the Exohi and Promachonas border crossings with Bulgaria, but only for freight transport.

Across Greece, ahead of Christmas, farmers intend to temporarily lift blockades to facilitate the movement of people travelling for the holidays. Yet, their plan is not to remove their tractors and farm vehicles completely, but keep them parked along national motorways.
