Greece: Number of COVID-19 deaths increases by 23%
Athens, 25 October 2022 (MIA) — The number of deaths from COVID-19 in Greece increased by 23 percent in the past week while the official number of new SARS-CoV-2 infections dropped by four percent, according to MIA’s Athens correspondent citing the National Public Health Organization’s weekly report.
Between Oct. 17 and 23, health authorities logged 52,966 cases of COVID-19, of which 22 percent were reinfections, and 138 people died.
A total of 691,863 tests were performed, with a positivity rate of 7.66 percent, compared to 7.96 percent a week earlier.
Greek hospitals reported 82 patients connected to ventilators in their intensive care units, eight more than last week.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Greece has logged 5,135,200 SARS-CoV-2 infections and 33,574 people have died from the coronavirus. mr/
