Gov't says Afrona Verizvoli to be dismissed as auditor of IPA funds tomorrow

Skopje, 10 August 2024 (MIA) - Afrona Verizvoli, who was appointed as auditor of IPA funds, will be dismissed from the post on Sunday, the Government said in a press release.

"We inform the public that Afrona Verizvoli will be dismissed from the post auditor of IPA funds tomorrow. In addition, we point out that it is necessary to direct attention to the open abuses over the past period of EU money and funds made available, regarding which there is a written trace and notification from the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) which due to such operations require payment of several million euros from the state," reads the press release.

The Government notes that it interprets the diversion of attention to other topics "as an escape from responsibility for such abuses". "There will be responsibility," it adds.

Media outlets reported Saturday that the EU will investigate whether the Government has appointed an inappropriate chief auditor for the European funds, and that it is not known whether the newly appointed Afrona Vervizoli holds an auditor's license at all.
