Gov't not giving up on dissolution of Judicial Council and Council of Public Prosecutors

Skopje, 11 August 2024 (MIA) - The Government is not giving up on the idea of dissolution of the Republic's Judicial Council and the Council of Public Prosecutors, as this represents a reform of these institutions for which we publicly called for a debate, it said in a press release on Sunday.

"Institutions in the country work according to the applicable laws and the Constitution. All the resulting documents must be in accordance with the applicable laws and the Constitution. The Government is not giving up on the idea of dissolution of the Republic's Judicial Council and the Council of Prosecutors, as this represents a reform of these institutions for which we publicly called for a debate, and we will remind you that citizens' trust in them is at less than 2 percent," reads the press release.

Their non-dissolution, it adds, will mean continuing the agony of having some obedient judges and prosecutors replaced by others, by the same principle as in the past. That, the Government points out, is neither our goal nor our commitment.

"We understand that many are scared and worried about the dissolution of these institutions, but the time is coming for changes and a chance for professional and capable staff," the press release reads.
