Skopje, 2 December 2024 (MIA) - The Government said Monday that the resignation of the President of the Judicial Council, Vesna Dameva, is the “sole viable and right decision following the numerous remarks about her work”.

“We understand that many will be impacted and concerned after this decision due to their suspicious work, the huge suspicions of crime, as well as the falsification of minutes, but justice must start working,” the Government said in a statement after Dameva’s resignation.

Judicial Council President Vesna Dameva held a press conference Monday, during which she announced she is stepping down from her post. Dameva said she made the decision since the executive and legislative government have been making no effort to ensure swift and efficient justice, and due to attempts made by top government officials to ruin her integrity.

At an emergency session later on Monday, the Judicial Council accepted Dameva’s resignation but withdrew the election of a new President from the agenda due to the absence of two members.
