Gov’t bans promotional and discounted sales of food and agricultural products in retail

Skopje, 14 September 2023 (MIA) – As of Thursday, retailers selling agricultural and food products are banned from selling them as part of promotional or discounted sales, except for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The ban will last until November 30.

According to a Government press release, the goal of the decision is to protect the citizens from price manipulation.

“During today’s 185th session, the Government of North Macedonia, upon the proposal of the Ministry of Economy, adopted a decision with which it forbids retailers from selling agricultural and food products as part of promotional and discounted sales with the exception of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages,” said the Government, adding that the decision has been adopted with the goal of preventing abuses with profits when it comes to certain products.

According to the Government, the decision has been made so the citizens can know the correct and real price of the product, and not be misled by the prices of food products. The decision will be valid until November 30, 2023.
