Government adopts report on prevention from heatwave effects on population's health

Skopje, 24 June 2025 (MIA) - The Government reviewed and adopted Tuesday the report on implementation of measures in line with Phase 3 of the Action Plan for prevention from heatwave effects on the population's health 2025-2030.
All ministries, state administration agencies and other competent institutions are tasked to actively implement measures and recommendations, notify and coordinate all local services, public institutions and other legal entities in their jurisdiction to implement the measures within Phase 3 of the Action Plan for prevention of heatwave effects on the population's health 2025-2030.
The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the National Hydrometeorological Service and the Public Health Institute, to provide regular reports on the state of the heatwave, accompanied by activation of emergency plans, whereas all health institutions, facilities for the elderly and educational institutions to proceed in accordance with the internal emergency protocols.
Regarding the working conditions and protection of employees, the Government recommends that the operating process is stopped in the critical hours of the day (11 am - 5 pm) for workers under direct heat exposure, as well as work from home, and flexible working hours when possible.
Employers should ensure microclimate working conditions in accordance with the Action Plan, namely office temperatures of up to 25C, and exempt pregnant women and persons over 60 from work; health, education and social institutions to proceed in line with the emergency plans, rotate staff and ensure air-conditioned facilities for patients and staff; social work centers, local self-governments and the Red Cross to intensify field support for elderly and homeless persons; education institutions and kindergartens to avoid open-air activities between 11 am and 5 pm; and provision of all-day air-conditioned public transport.
