Gov't pursuing responsible public debt policy, says Kovachevski
Skopje, 26 August 2022 (MIA) - We're committed with the Finance Ministry to implement an exceptionally responsible policy regarding the public debt, which is why it stands at 55.4% at the moment, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski has said. "On June 30, public debt was 55.4% and government debt was 46.7%. This means the country is below the Maastricht Criteria of 60%, which most countries have surpassed amid the coronavirus crisis, the prolonged economic and energy crisis and the Ukraine war," he told a news conference. As regards international and national loans, the PM recalled that a loan in amount of EUR 100 million was taken to support the liquidity of Elektrostopanstvo in the midst of the energy crisis. A loan of EUR 50 million will be also taken due to the lower interest rates in terms of different creditors. Asked about the issuance of Eurobond, Kovachevski said that all options are examined daily given the vulnerability of the financial market and the high interest rates in the past quarter. "We're working daily, from different financing sources in order to get the lowest interest rate at the moment," he stated.
