Gov't, chamber officials to discuss energy crisis at working meeting
Skopje, 27 July 2022 (MIA) - Officials of the government and the Economic Chamber on Wednesday will hold a working meeting to discuss proposed solutions about the situation involving the energy crisis. The delegations, headed by Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi and the Chamber's deputy president and chairman of the Macedonian Energy Association (MEA), Kocho Angjushev, will discuss the movement of electricity prices on the HUPEX market, reaching up to EUR 500 per megawatt hours in recent days, which require urgent and determined reaction by economic policy makers, said the Economic Chamber. MEA's demands and proposals offering solutions to the energy crisis, designed for businesses, will be discussed at the meeting. MEA at a July session adopted conclusions calling on national power production to increase by using all possible resources; the government to reactivate a decision regulating that the electricity produced by renewable sources should be intended only for the industry during a state of crisis; changes to the law on construction to allow legalization of industrial capacities/facilities for the non-polluting industry; the government to provide guarantees that over the winter the neighboring countries will not close the borders for electricity flow; and the Energy Regulatory Commission to prepare a rulebook on how to organize distribution networks. After the meeting, Bekteshi, Angjushev and ERC president Marko Bislimovski are expected to speak to members of the media.
