Washington, 3 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is calling for a swift end to the attacks on Iran by the US and Israel due to the economic impact.

Rising oil prices are damaging "our economies," Merz said in response to a reporter's question during his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington.

"So that's the reason why we all hope that this war will come to an end as soon as possible," Merz added.

He said he hoped that the Israeli and US militaries were doing the right thing so that a new government in Tehran could restore peace and freedom.
