Brussels, 24 June 2024 (MIA) - The state and political leadership of North Macedonia has chosen to not use the constitutional name of the country in the domestic arena. This is a flagrant violation of the Prespa Agreement, said Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) on Monday.
"The Prespa Agreement provides that the title of the state will be one and only (erga omnes) - North Macedonia," said FM Gerapetritis.
He added everyone must understand that international law is the basis of global peace and security and "there is no single cherry-picking process".
"Accession to the European Union without full incorporation of the European Acquis and without full adherence to international law and international treaties is unacceptable and unthinkable," said Gerapetritis.
According to him, Greece has always been a driving force of the Western Balkans' EU accession process and considers this the best path for the countries in the region and the Union itself.
