Gerapetritis: Memoranda to be ratified once Prespa Agreement implementation fully aligned

Gerapetritis: Memoranda to be ratified once Prespa Agreement implementation fully aligned

Athens, 12 April 2024 (MIA) - The delay in the ratification of the three memoranda with North Macedonia is not because of internal political circumstances in Greece but due to "relations developing after the Prespa Agreement", said Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis while reiterating it is an international agreement that cannot be unilaterally altered, MIA reports from Athens.

FM Gerapetritis told the Delphi Economic Forum that progress on the memoranda would take place when political circumstances allow for it, but added this does not relate to "internal political circumstances in Greece."

"The Prespa Agreement is an international agreement, which supersedes any other law. Such agreements cannot be changed unilaterally and are obligatory for every government. Therefore, what we must do is follow the consistent implementation of the Prespa Agreement, and we are doing this. These memoranda will be ratified in the Greek parliament once there is common understanding and full alignment," said Gerapetritis.

He also reiterated Greece's support for the EU perspective of all countries of the Western Balkans.
