Ohrid, 18 January 2023 (MIA) – The issue of Illegal constructions is an important one, it is important one in the UNESCO context and it is important across the board as it goes to the heart of the rule of law, EU Ambassador David Geer said on Wednesday.

“What is important that Illegal construction first of all needs to stop by definition a breach of the rule of law and therefore action needs to be taken to prevent illegal construction. Especially here in an area, which is great natural beauty obviously illegal construction is a threat to that beauty and that’s the point that has been made by UNESCO repeatedly,” Geer told reporters during the visit to Ohrid together with the EU heads of mission.

“And for existing illegal constructions obviously that action needs to be taken that involves many different players, it involves the courts, the prosecutors, the local authorities, the central government they need to come together to address this important issue,” Geer stressed.
