Skopje, 17 January 2024 (MIA) – EU Ambassador David Geer stated that he had a very productive meeting with the Judicial Council President Vesna Dameva on Tuesday, and expressed hopes that all Judicial Council members will turn a new page and try to implement recommendations of the EU peer review mission.
“After the Administrative Court's ruling, which annulled the decision to dismiss Dameva, I expressed interest in meeting with the President of the Judicial Council. As you know, I did not meet with her predecessor because we expressed our concerns at that time about the way Dameva was dismissed and also about the choice of the then President of the Judicial Council. Our concerns were addressed by the Administrative Court with their decision to reinstate Dameva,” Geer said Wednesday, responding to a journalist's question prior to the start of the Civil Society Fair.
He added that during the meeting with Dameva, they discussed the situation in the Judicial Council, the recommendations made by the EU peer review mission last year, and the measures that will be implemented by the Judicial Council.
"I believe we had a very productive meeting with the President of the Judicial Council, and I sincerely hope that all members of the Judicial Council will turn a new page and try to implement the recommendations from the EU peer review mission. We also discussed the competencies of the Judicial Council members," added Geer.
