Geer: Convinced North Macedonia will assume ‘deserved’ spot as full-fledged EU member state

Skopje, 11 May 2024 (MIA) - On occasion of EU Flag Day, a traditional Vodno hiking march was held Saturday by the European Movement, which was attended by the European Union’s Ambassador to North Macedonia, David Geer, and the head of the European Movement, Mileva Gjurovska.

The march began in front of the EU Delegation building in Skopje, where Geer and Gjurovska exchanged the flags of the EU and North Macedonia, after which they headed to the top of Vodno Mountain where the two flags will be planted.

At the event, Ambassador Geer voiced his belief that the Macedonian flag will also be raised in Brussels when it becomes an EU member state.

“Climbing the mountain is not a simple task. There’s a lot to be done. The march is difficult, but I am convinced that we will conquer the top, just as this country will assume its deserved spot in the European Union as a full-fledged member state,” Geer said.

The head of the European Movement, Mileva Gjurvoska, noted that the march is a tradition that has been maintained for more than 25 years. The symbolism, she stressed, is that we climb together with the representatives of the EU who accompany us on the path to the EU.

“The path to the European Union is a bit more difficult, there is climbing, there are also pauses that occur, but the path should always be continued in order to reach the top, that’s the symbolism of what we say every year,” Gjurovska said.
