Skopje, 27 May 2024 (MIA) - Afrim Gashi resigns as Alternativa party leader due to candidacy for the post Parliament Speaker, as reported by Alternativa political party.

Gashi confirms the information to MIA.

“At the last session of Alternativa's central assembly, held on Thursday, May 23, discussions were held regarding Afrim Gashi's candidacy for the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia. Since Article 67 of the Constitution of North Macedonia stipulates that the President of the Republic's Parliament cannot simultaneously hold a position as president or official of a political party, Afrim Gashi resigned from the position of president of Alternativa and all other party functions,” according to Alternativa.

Moreover, in line with Alternativa's statute, President Afrim Gashi authorized Vice President Bekim Sali to perform the formal duties of the party until the final resolution of the issue of the President of Alternativa.
