Skopje, 25 November 2024 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi, met Monday with the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, during his official visit to Kosovo.
The meeting was attended by Imrliye Saliu-Fetai, chairperson of the Parliamentary Group of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia for Cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, and Toni Jarevski, a member of the group.
Speaker Gashi thanked for the warm welcome and highlighted that this visit reaffirms the excellent and constructive bilateral relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the fruitful cooperation between the two countries at all levels, the parliament’s press service said.
"Gashi underscored that bilateral parliamentary cooperation is progressing with strong momentum, and this trend is expected to continue in the future. The frequency of reciprocal bilateral meetings, which Parliament Speaker Gashi actively promoted during his tenure as Chair of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, has significantly advanced dialogue between the two countries and led to convening the second joint session of the governments on November 18. The two parliaments maintain successful cooperation and mutual support on a multilateral level, participating in international parliamentary assemblies such as the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), the Council of Europe, and the Francophonie. They share a unified vision for a stable Western Balkans integrated into Euro-Atlantic structures. The future of the Western Balkans is within the European Union and NATO," reads the press release.
Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo Konjufca expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the Republic of North Macedonia at all levels, from independence to present day. He noted that the ongoing reciprocal support at all levels reflects the excellent, friendly, and unburdened relations between the two countries.
"The Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo share the same challenges: aligning with EU standards, implementing reforms, addressing challenges and making compromises with neighbours," Konjufca said.
The interlocutors agreed that our region should become part of the European Union as soon as possible, considering the geopolitical context of the continent and the region’s significance for peace and stability in Europe and beyond.
